Manama: The Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) launched a public awareness campaign to promote the safe and optimal use of electricity in homes.

The campaign aims to raise awareness on the importance of regular electrical safety checks at home, including ensuring the proper functioning of the grounding and protection systems, which can disconnect power in case of malfunctions.

The authority said that this awareness campaign is part of its social responsibility initiatives and its ongoing efforts to promote a culture of safe practices when using electrical equipments.

EWA stressed the need to use only EWA-approved contractors for home electrical work, warning of the risks of using uncertified contractors who may not adhere to safety standards, potentially resulting in electrical hazards.

EWA advised subscribers to contact it before adding new electrical loads to avoid risks by making necessary upgrades for existing cables and fuses.
